When using Exchange 2007 and Outlook 2007, the following error may popup after you try to open the Out-Office Assistant:
“Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.”
One of the following reason may cause this error:
- You’re trying to open the OOF settings of different Exchange-account
- Incorrect Autodiscover Service settings
- Wrong certificate
- “Enable Anonymous Access” is enabled in IIS on te EWS virtual directory.
1) In most cases, the reason for this error is thatIf you try to adjust the Out of Office settings of User A, while you’re logged on as User B, As an Exchange administrator, you probably need to modify collegues’ Out of Office settings on occasional basis. Unfortunately, this is not possibleSince we have migrated from Outlook 2003 to Outlook 2007, I couldn’t modify Out of Office settings anymore. Editing OOF settings by logging in with an administrator account resulted in the following error:
“Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later”
Solution: Keep one system up with Outlook 2003. 🙂
Another solution is to log in as user X, but then you will have to reset the users’ password.
If there are subdomains (some addresses maybe pie.com is the main and then some have pizza.pie.com), Autodiscover may not be correctly configured for the subdomains in DNS. This usually fixes this issue. With Exchange most things are all about DNS.
Or you could check the proxy settings in IE and make sure they are not pointing somewhere they shouldn’t be. Especially if your user and their computer wander around a lot LOL.
i have the same problem, i can´t change the user´s. Another solution.
if using Outlook 2007, the easier and quicker way is to use OWA and set it up from there
it works fine
I have the same issue with a client, but OWA is not an option. I have to fix the outlook client, Tried using the Hot fix KB352040 but returns an error that the expected version is not installed, but it is, Office 2007 sp2 .. odd
Outlook 2007:
– Open Outlook
– Click ‘Help’ on the menu bar
– Click ‘Disabled Iems…’
– Reenable OOF
– Works!

wrong, nuff said
One of the possible reason of this error is the wrong configured OOF URL. Check out the steps mentioned in this article: http://www.what-is.in/howto/fix-your-out-of-office-settings-cannot-be-displayed.html
