Event 9186: Microsoft Exchange System Attendant has detected that the local computer is not a member of group

After moving an Exchange 2007 server to another Organizational Unit (OU) in Active Directory, event 9186 may occur:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeSA
Event Category: General
Event ID: 9186
Date: 10/29/2008
Time: 7:56:01 AM
User: N/A
Computer: mailserver1
Description:
Microsoft Exchange System Attendant has detected that the local computer is not a member of group ‘/dc=local/dc=mydomain/ou=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups/cn=Exchange Servers’. System Attendant is going to add the local computer into the group.
The current members of the group are ‘CN=Exchange Install Domain Servers,CN=Microsoft Exchange System Objects,DC=mydomain,DC=local,CN=mailserver1,OU=ExchangeServers,DC=mydomain,DC=local;.

If the distinguished name of the Exchange Server computer is changed, the cached distinguished name will differ from the actual distinguished name. Although the event says the System Attendant is going to add the local computer into the group, it will not do this until you restart the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service.
To restart the System Attendant service:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc and click OK
  2. Right-click on Microsoft Exchange System Attendant and click Restart
