Another day in the life of a Sysadmin: Error 0x800f0982 in Windows Update. In this particular case, it was update 2019-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 version 1809 (KB4489899). But actually, it could’ve been any update.
Fix 0x800f0982
Error 0x800f0982 stands for PSFX_E_MATCHING_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND and indicates some missing components related to language packs. Investigation led me to only 2 reasonable solutions:
- Uninstall and reinstall any additional language pack
- Click Start -> select Settings > Time & Language > Language
Under Preferred languages, select the language you want to remove, and then click Remove. - Click Start -> select Settings > Time & Language > Language
Choose a language from the Add a language list under Preferred languages, and then select Options.
Click Download. - Now, check for updates again and install all available updates. Updates should now install without errors.
- Click Start -> select Settings > Time & Language > Language
- In case above’s steps didn’t work, your best bet is to use Windows Restore to go back to a previous restore point
