After upgrading to Windows 10, you may have noticed a Windows.old folder in C:\Windows. This is a copy of the previous version of your Windows Installation. In case of any errors during or after installation, Windows is able to rollback to the older installation. Is your computer working correctly after the upgrade? Then it is safe to delete the folder.
There may be tens of ways to remove the folder correctly. Secret: 1 time is enough 😉 Here’s how.
Delete Windows.old folder
Note: there’s a screenshot below. The numbers in the steps correspond to the numbers in the screenshot. 🙂
- Click Start
- Start typing “temporary” until Delete temporary files appears.
- Click Delete temporary files
- Check the box Previous Windows installation(s)
4a. Uncheck any other box to speed up the process - Click Remove files
After completion you have freed up about 15GB of data on your System drive. This is usually your C: drive
